Heavy Floods Return to Tanjung Raya Agam Thursday Afternoon
LUBUK BASUNG - Flash floods have hit Maninjau, Tanjung Raya District, Agam Regency, West Sumatra again due to the overflowing of the Batang Aia Pisang River after heavy rainfall hit the area on Thursday afternoon.
The Tanjung Raya Al Hafid Village Head in Lubuk Basung, Thursday, said dozens of houses were flooded with water and rocky mud in Jorong Pasar, Nagari Maninjau, Tanjung Raya District.
"Water accompanied by rocky mud material hit dozens of houses in Jorong Pasar Maninjau including the Lubuk Basung-Bukittinggi connecting road," he said.
He said flash floods also caused houses to be damaged along the Batang Aia Pisang River.
However, the total number is not yet available, because the sub-district and nagari governments are still conducting data collection on the impact of the flash flood.
"There were no casualties and damaged houses are being counted," he said.
Currently, he added, rainfall is still high. With this condition, he urged residents to always increase vigilance against subsequent flooding.
Previously, flash floods also hit the area after the upstream river collapsed at Kelok 28, so that the river became shallow.
For this reason, the local government has deployed heavy equipment to normalize the river.
