Four Tourists from Depok Carried Away by Waves at Parangtritis Beach, Rescued by SAR Team

BANTUL - The Christmas and New Year Special Standby Search and Rescue (SAR) Team from the Yogyakarta SAR office rescued four tourists who were swept away by waves at Parangtritis Beach, Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region.

"The four tourists who were dragged by the waves of Parangtritis Beach can be saved by the joint SAR Team in a safe state," said Head of the Yogyakarta SAR Office Rio Banupanitis in Yogyakarta, Wednesday, December 24, reported by ANTARA.

The four victims who were successfully rescued were Nur Fahmi, a man (20) from Depok, West Java, Maulana, a man (19) from Depok, West Java, then Satria, a man (16), from Depok, West Java, and Ridwan, a man (17), from Cilangkap, Tapos, West Java.

He said, the chronology received by the SAR personnel of the Special Alert Nataru at the Bantul Parangtritis Beach joint post, the victim and the entourage arrived at the Parangtritis Beach area around 14.10 WIB.

Then, they headed to the beach to play in the water, the group swam holding hands which happened to be in the location of the rip current, and not long after, the four victims were dragged by the current and drowned.

"Special Satlinmas Rescue officers together with SAR Parangtritis, Ditpolair Polda DIY, and Basarnas Yogyakarta who were on standby at the post immediately provided assistance to the victim by swimming," he said.

The Head of the Yogyakarta SAR Office appealed to tourists who were on vacation on the south coast of Bantul and the Special Region of Yogyakarta to always be careful with the beach waves, so as not to endanger their safety.

"Tourists when they are on the beach should always obey the appeals of SAR officers on duty and obey the signs that have been installed along the south coast of Yogyakarta," he said.
