Commission V of the DPR asks the government to optimize the transmigration area as a new economic area.

Member of Commission V of the DPR from the Gerindra Party Faction Danang Wicaksana asked the government to optimize existing transmigration areas so that they can develop into new economic areas, as well as become a national food storage area.

Danang assessed that the transmigration program should no longer be seen as merely a transfer of residents from densely populated areas to areas that are still sparsely populated. But more than that, according to him, transmigration is a major strategy of the state in realizing economic equity and equitable development between regions.

"Transmigration areas have tremendous potential. If managed seriously, this area can become a national food warehouse as well as a new production center oriented towards exports," said Danang in his statement, Wednesday, December 24.

The legislator from the Central Java III constituency assessed that so far the potential of the transmigration area has not been optimally worked on. In fact, according to Danang, the land resources, labor, and opportunities for the development of the agricultural and agro-industrial sectors are very large.

"With the support of agricultural modernization and adequate infrastructure development, the transmigration area can become a driver of regional economy," he said.

Danang also revealed that the transmigration area was able to contribute to a larger export value. However, he said, this must be encouraged by the government, especially the Ministry of Transmigration to conduct training and development of the area.

In the future, Danang emphasized, the transmigration area can become the backbone of the national economy, not just the marginal community.

"The development of the transmigration area is expected to be a driver of regional and national economies. They are not second-class citizens, but national assets that must be empowered," he said.

Therefore, Danang encourages the government, especially the Ministry of Transmigration, to provide real support in the form of access to capital, the use of modern agricultural technology, and easy market access for transmigrants.

He emphasized that collaboration between the central government, local governments, and the private sector is the key to the success of the development of the transmigration area as a new center of sustainable economic growth.

"If managed in an integrated and sustainable manner, the transmigration area will become a new force for the national economy and strengthen Indonesia's food security," concluded Danang.
