Juice to Lower Leukocytes

Reported from the official website of the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), high leukocytes or commonly known as leukocytosis is a condition where the number of white blood cells owned is too much. The condition can be triggered by various things such as inflammation, infection, allergies, or it can also be due to blood cancer.

It must be known that the number of human white blood cells is normally different depending on age. The following is the normal white blood cell count calculated per microliter of blood (cells/µL of blood) according to age group.

Newborn babies: 9,400 - 34,000 Toddlers (3-5 years): 4,000 - 12,000 Adolescents (12-15 years): 3,500 - 9,000 Adults (15 years and over): 3,500 - 10,500

If the white blood cell is too high, medical help is needed to keep the number normal. People with high leukocytes can also be overcome with aloe vera juice. This is proven by a study entitled The Effect of Aloe Vera Juice (Aloe vera) on the Number of Leukocytes in White Mice (Rattus norvegicus) Exposed to Cigarette Smoke by Aris Ratna Sari and Nur Kuswanti.

This study was conducted to find out whether aloe vera juice (Aloe vera) can reduce the number of leukocytes (white blood cells) that increase due to exposure to cigarette smoke.

A total of 45 white rats were used in this study and divided into five groups. Some groups were given aloe vera juice with different doses, while other groups were exposed to cigarette smoke without juice.

Every day, the mice were given aloe vera juice for a week after being exposed to cigarette smoke. After that, the number of leukocytes in the mice was counted to see if there was a decrease.

The results of the study showed that aloe vera juice can lower the number of leukocytes, and a dose of 4 ml per 250 grams of body weight was proven to be the most effective.

Although the study showed a positive impact on experimental mice, in humans it still needs to be tested in more depth. There needs to be further research to determine whether aloe vera juice is really able to trigger the same effect in humans, especially in the long term.

Even so, the public can still use aloe vera juice as a general herbal medicine. As for dealing with the problem of leukocytosis, patients need to consult a doctor intensively.
