KPK Follow-up ICW-Kontras Report on the Blackmail of 43 Police Officers

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said it would review the report of the Indonesian Corruption Watch (ICW) non-governmental organization together with the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras) regarding alleged extortion by 43 Polri personnel.

"Regarding the reports of complaints from the public submitted by these parties, of course, an initial examination will be carried out. Is the information provided valid? Later, the validity will be checked," said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists in Jakarta, Wednesday, quoted by Antara.

After that, said Budi, the KPK will carry out the verification and analysis process of the ICW and Kontras reports.

He said that if the report could be followed up by the KPK, then it would be determined to be processed further in the fields of education, prevention, coordination of supervision, or enforcement.

"Of course, every progress, or every stage in the public complaint report will be conveyed specifically to the reporting party because it is the material, then the results of the progress of examination, verification, and analysis are excluded information or closed information," he said.

Previously, ICW and Kontras reported 14 soldiers, and 29 police officers related to alleged extortion of up to Rp26.2 billion during 2020-2025, in four different cases.

The four cases consist of murder, the Djakarta Warehouse Project (DWP) concert, a case of extortion between teenagers and the police in Semarang, Central Java, and a case related to the sale and purchase of watches.
