Utilization of Domestic Natural Gas as of September Reaches 3,895.85 BBTUD
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) reported that from January to September 2025, the realization of the utilization of natural gas for domestic needs reached 3,895.85 Billion British Thermal Units per Day (BBTUD)
Director of Oil and Gas Program Development of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Hendra Gunawan, detailed that the industrial sector is still the largest gas absorber with a realization of 1,419.10 BBTUD. Then followed by domestic LNG of 745.00 BBTUD, and the electricity sector of 740.17 BBTUD.
Meanwhile, LNG exports were still recorded at 1,285.82 BBTUD and pipeline gas exports at 412.82 BBTUD.
"The average utilization of natural gas is 5,594 BBTUD, domestic absorbed gas is 3,895 BBTUD, and exports are 1,698 BBTUD. So the utilization of domestic gas reaches around 69.65 percent," said Hendra, quoted Wednesday, December 24.
Furthermore, Hendra explained, to support distribution, the government continues to accelerate the development of the transmission network. The Cirebon-Semarang (Cisem) Phase 2 pipeline project along 245 kilometers is targeted to be completed in 2025.
On the other hand, the government is also continuing to encourage the development of the Dumai-Sei Mangkei (Dusem) pipeline to integrate the pipeline network on the island of Sumatra which connects the Arun Belawan Medan Industrial Estate (KIM) to the Sei Mangkei SEZ.
In the archipelago, the government relies on a non-piped scheme. The construction of the West Natuna Transportation System (WNTS) pipeline on Pemping Island is also crucial to flow gas from Natuna to Batam.
"That way, the gas will be optimally absorbed for domestic needs. Given Indonesia's geographical conditions as an archipelago country, the concept of LNG as a virtual pipeline utilizes LNG tankers for distribution to various energy facilities that reach all regions throughout Indonesia," concluded Hendra.
