Bapanas Records Chili Prices Down, December Production Increases
JAKARTA - The price of chili, which had soared in recent weeks, has begun to show a downward trend.
The National Food Agency (Bapanas) noted that the movement of chili prices gradually decreased as the supply from the production center improved and production increased in December 2025.
The decline in prices was also felt by traders in traditional markets.
Munawaroh, a chili trader at Wonokromo Market, Surabaya, East Java, said the price of chili has started to fall in the last two weeks due to an increasingly abundant supply.
"The price of chili is now Rp. 40,000, which is curly Rp. 30,000. This has decreased. The small one was Rp. 50,000 yesterday. There are many goods, the harvest is successful," said Munawaroh in a Bapanas official statement, Wednesday, December 24.
According to Munawaroh, previously the price of chili had touched Rp. 60,000 per kilogram. However, as the distribution from the Keputran Central Market and the production center area went smoothly, the price slowly decreased.
"Yesterday it was just two weeks to Rp60,000. It keeps getting lower and lower. There are many goods. From the Kaputran Central Market which is specifically for vegetables," he said.
This downward price trend is in line with the data of the Food Price Panel managed by Bapanas. As of December 23, 2025, all types of chili recorded a price decrease compared to the previous week, and some were even lower than a month ago.
The price of curly red chilies was recorded at Rp52,955 per kilogram, down 12.4 percent compared to the previous week which reached Rp60,461 per kilogram. Compared to a month ago, the price of curly red chilies also fell 1.56 percent from Rp53,804 per kilogram.
Meanwhile, the price of large red chilies is at the level of IDR 48,186 per kilogram or down 10.69 percent compared to the previous week which was at IDR 53,954 per kilogram.
Compared to a month ago, the price of this commodity also fell 8.31 percent from Rp52,554 per kilogram.
For red chili, the price per December 23 was recorded at Rp66,098 per kilogram. This figure decreased compared to the previous day and decreased by 6.9 percent compared to last week which was still at Rp70,996 per kilogram.
This condition is also in line with the projections made by the Head of Bapanas and Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman. He is optimistic that the price of chili will continue to improve as long as domestic production is maintained.
"Yesterday, the chili that I monitored was quite good, even down. But we think this is because there is a disaster, rain, so if the chili goes up a little, it's still normal," Amran said at a press conference in Jakarta, Monday, December 22.
In terms of production, the Bapanas Food Balance Projection as of December 2025 shows an increase in chili production, especially large chili.
The production of large chili in December is estimated to reach 127,800 tons, an increase of 22.3 percent compared to November which was 104,500 tons.
Meanwhile, the production of cayenne pepper in December 2025 is estimated to reach 108,600 tons.
This figure is considered sufficient to meet the national consumption needs, which range from 76,000 to 78,000 tons per month.
In addition to increased production, national chili stocks until the end of 2025 are also at a sufficient level.
The stock of large chili is estimated at 63,400 tons, while the stock of sweet peas is in the range of 49,300 tons.
With the maintenance of production and the availability of these stocks, the government is optimistic that the stability of chili prices can be maintained until the end of the year and enter early 2026.
