Inverter Bolt Problem, Toyota Withdraws Tens of Thousands of Hybrid Cars in the US
JAKARTA - Toyota is recalling more than 55,000 cars in the United States (US) due to a small matter, namely a bolt that may not be properly tightened.
Based on the report of Carscoops, quoted, Wednesday, December 24, this recall affects 55,405 units of the popular Toyota Camry Hybrid and Corolla Cross Hybrid.
The details are more than 51,600 units of the 2025-2026 model Camry sedans, which are the majority of this recall, while the rest, namely 3,761 units, consist of the 2026 Corolla Cross SUV.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the problem lies in the inverter that regulates the power flow in Toyota's hybrid system. If the inverter bolts are not properly tightened at the factory, it can cause imperfect electrical contact at the inverter terminals.
Simply put, the above problems can cause warning lights to come on, power to be reduced, or in the worst two scenarios, sudden loss of propulsion while the user is driving casually, or a fire.
Toyota said it was not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the issue, which is good news, although it has received 34 Toyota Field Technical Reports and 15 warranty claims.
Responding to the above problem, Toyota took the step of inviting owners to come to the dealer to check the inverter and tighten or replace the bolts as needed, of course at no cost.
