Christmas Night Weather: BMKG Forecasts Light Rain in Many Areas
JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that light rain will pour over most of Indonesia on Christmas Eve Wednesday, December 24, for that, the public is urged to always have an umbrella.
BMKG Praktirawan Diahayu said that starting from Sumatra Island, the weather is expected to be cloudy in the Tanjung Pinang area, while Medan, Banda Aceh, and Palembang will be covered by thick clouds.
"It is estimated that Padang, Jambi, Bengkulu, and Pangkal Pinang will have light rain," he said, Wednesday, December 24.
BMKG also warned people in the Bandar Lampung area to be alert for rain that could be accompanied by lightning.
Turning to Java Island, the weather is predicted to be light rain in all areas, ranging from Jakarta, Serang, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya.
Moving to the Kalimantan region, Pontianak City is predicted to be thick clouds, while Palangkaraya will be showered with light rain.
"Banjarmasin and Tanjung Selor are predicted to rain with moderate intensity, and be aware of lightning that can occur in Samarinda," said Diah.
Moving to the Bali and Nusa Tenggara region, the weather is predicted to be light rain in Denpasar and Mataram, while the people in the Kupang area are asked to be alert for rain that may be accompanied by lightning.
Then for Sulawesi Island, the weather is predicted to be thick clouds in the Gorontalo area, while light rain is potentially occurring in Palu. Moderate rain is potentially going to hit Mamuju City, Makassar, and Manado.
"Be aware of rain that may be accompanied by lightning in the Kendari area," he said.
Shifting to the Maluku region, the weather in Ternate and Ambon City is predicted to be light rain.
Meanwhile, for the Papua region, Manokwari City is predicted to be thick clouds, while Sorong, Nabire, Jayapura, and Jayawijaya Cities have the potential for light rain. Merauke and Nabire Cities are predicted to rain with moderate intensity,
BMKG also said that the 93S cyclone seed was observed in the southwest Indian Ocean of Bengkulu with a maximum wind speed of 55 knots or 74 km/h. This cyclone seed has the potential to become a tropical cyclone in the next 48 hours which can increase wind speeds of more than 25 knots in the southwest Indian Ocean of Lampung.
The dynamics of the atmosphere cause the potential for weather to be quite significant in various regions of Indonesia. It is necessary to be aware of the potential for heavy to very heavy rain in the West Java, Central Java, and South Papua regions.
