Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) ensures the security of Christmas and New Year celebrations.
JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) General TNI (Ret.) Djamari Chaniago asked all parties to carry out security for the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year celebrations in a coordinated, anticipatory, and humanistic manner by prioritizing community safety and creating a conducive situation.
"Based on the direction of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Prabowo Subianto, Christmas and New Year security is carried out in a coordinated, anticipatory, and humane manner by prioritizing public safety and security stability," said Djamari in a Coordination Meeting for the Preparation of Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 Security.
According to Djamari, the evaluation of security for Christmas and New Year previously showed high community mobility with the number of travelers reaching around 95 million people.
All community activities are considered to be carried out in a conducive condition because the security process last year was considered successful.
"The reduction in the number of traffic accidents in 2024 reaches around 25 percent compared to 2023, as well as a reduction in the number of accident victims by 0.51 percent," said the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs.
This success, he continued, is a reference in preparing strategic and effective steps to provide a sense of security to the community during the year-end holiday period.
Djamari also reminded his staff to anticipate things that could hinder community activities during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
"The increase in community mobility during the long holiday period has the potential to cause traffic congestion, an increase in the number of accidents, and security disturbances in the form of street crime and gangsterism," he said.
Apart from security aspects, Djamari also highlighted the threat of natural disasters that have increased due to extreme weather conditions.
Therefore, he reminded the ranks of institutions under the Ministry of Law and Human Rights that there was the potential for weather disturbances in Sumatra, Java, Bali, and Kalimantan which could affect community activities.
"Floods and landslides in Sumatra, even in Central Java, have caused casualties and extensive infrastructure damage so that a serious response and attention from all of us is needed," he said.
With the anticipation and cross-sectoral cooperation of the ministries, Djamari believes that all threats can be handled with mature anticipation steps from various parties.
"Give peace and comfort to the public to enjoy a long holiday, including our brothers and sisters who carry out Christmas and New Year's worship," he concluded.
