Government Targets Completion of Temporary Housing for Aceh Disaster Victims Before Ramadan 2026

JAKARTA - The government through the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) targets the construction of temporary housing (huntara) for disaster victims in Aceh to be completed completely in early February 2026 or before entering Ramadan. While waiting for the construction process, the government is building an integrated evacuation in a number of affected areas.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said that the integrated evacuation was built through cooperation between the BNPB and the Ministry of Social Affairs, TNI, and Polri to ensure that the basic needs of refugees are still met.

"Temporary housing construction continues. Integrated evacuation will be built in several areas such as Aceh Tamiang, North Aceh, East Aceh, Bener Meriah, and Central Aceh. This evacuation is equipped with health services, psychosocial services, and communal kitchens. Temporary housing is targeted to be completed before mid-February or before the beginning of Ramadan," said Abdul Muhari in a press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday, December 23.

BNPB noted that the construction of huntara and permanent housing was carried out in five regencies/cities, namely North Aceh, Central Aceh, Bener Meriah, Pidie Jaya, Gayo Lues, and Pidie. In addition to housing construction, efforts to clean up the disaster-affected areas are also being continued.

Abdul said that TNI and Polri personnel were deployed to the maximum to accelerate recovery. In a number of locations, officers even work up to 18-20 hours per day to accelerate the normalization of the environment and restore community economic activities.

"The affected areas continue to be cleaned. Some points do require extra work because the impact of the disaster is quite heavy," he said.

BNPB also ensures that meeting the basic needs of affected residents remains a priority. To date, a total of 473,288 people are still displaced in various areas in Aceh.

"We continue to support the needs for food and non-food, so that our brothers and sisters who are still in the evacuation point or who have returned home or are staying temporarily at relatives' houses continue to receive food and clothing assistance," said Abdul.

Every day, around 100 tons of logistical assistance are sent from Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, East Jakarta, to the affected areas. As of December 22, 2025, the total assistance that has been distributed by BNPB has reached 1,266 tons.

"Around 100 tons are still a buffer stock. The enthusiasm and participation of the community is very high. We express our gratitude to all elements of the community for the support and donations provided," concluded Abdul.
