Central Java Police Chief Meets Krapyak Toll Accident Victims at Kariadi Hospital

JAKARTA - Central Java Police Chief Inspector General Ribut Hari Wibowo ensured that all victims who died and were injured due to an accident at the Krapyak Junction received proper treatment and services and prioritized empathy. This was conveyed when he directly reviewed the DVI Post at the Kariadi Hospital Mortuary on Tuesday, December 22, 2025.

On that occasion, the Police Chief said that the incident was handled by the Semarang Police Laka Unit, assisted by the Central Java Police Traffic Police.

Biddokkes Polda Jateng also moved quickly by deploying medical teams, evacuation teams, and Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) teams.

The DVI team also established a service post for the families of the deceased victims at the Dr. Kariadi Hospital as an information and assistance center during the identification process.

"Currently, the DVI Team is conducting a thorough identification process through the method of post mortem and ante mortem carefully and professionally. This is to ensure the accuracy of the identity before the body is handed over to the family," he continued.

As previously known, there was a single accident experienced by the PO Cahaya Trans bus on Tuesday morning at 00.45 WIB. The accident occurred when the bus was speeding out of control and hit a guardrail at the Krapyak Junction of the Inner Semarang Toll Road.

The incident resulted in 16 passengers dying and 17 being treated for injuries. 15 people died on the spot and 1 person died while undergoing medical treatment at Tugu Hospital.

All the victims are currently in the process of autopsies and identification by the Central Java Police's Biddokkes DVI Team in the mortuary of Kariadi Hospital in Semarang City. Meanwhile, 17 injured victims are being treated at three different hospitals, namely Tugu Hospital, Colombia Hospital, and Elisabeth Semarang Hospital.

"We share the grief of the victims in the accident, this event is a common concern," said Central Java Police Chief Inspector General of Police Ribut Hari Wibowo.

He said that based on information collected from field officers, the accident was a single traffic accident experienced by the PO Cahaya Trans Bus which was traveling from Bogor to Yogyakarta. From the initial check, the bus driver was a backup driver and was safe.

"Currently the driver has been secured by officers to undergo further examination, while the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation by the police," he explained.
