Yogyakarta Mayor Estimates UMK 2026 to Increase by 6 Percent
YOGYAKARTA - Yogyakarta Mayor Hasto Wardoyo estimates that the Yogyakarta City Minimum Wage (UMK) in 2026 will increase by around 6 percent compared to this year.
"About (up) 6 percent with the current range of alpha between 0.5 to 0.9," said Hasto after a discussion meeting on minimum wages at the Kepatihan office, Yogyakarta, Tuesday, December 23, reported by ANTARA.
According to Hasto, the determination of the current minimum wage is no longer entirely dependent on regional surveys like in previous years.
The regional government, he said, is currently referring to data that has been set by the central government through the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), including the Adequate Living Needs (KHL) component.
"If now we follow the numbers that have been given from the BPS from the center, including KHL for a survey on daily needs, so we only determine the alpha," he said.
He explained that the alpha value was determined by each district/city through deliberation between employers and workers, according to regional conditions. This value represents workers' contribution to economic growth.
"Alpha is an index of workers' contribution to economic growth. We have all determined the value of alpha, because we only have the right to determine alpha," he said.
Hasto explained that the current alpha value range is in the range of 0.5 to 0.9, higher than the previous provision which was only in the range of 0.1 to 0.3.
According to him, this change places workers' contributions in a higher position in the calculation of the minimum wage.
Regarding the time of the announcement, Hasto said the determination of the minimum wage is expected to be completed in the next two days.
"The province (DIY) decided first, then the district/city. Maybe two days later it will be finished," said Hasto.
