TNI Commander Talks About The Potential Of Interstate Cyber War, Many Countries Form Special Units For Anticipation
JAKARTA - TNI Commander Marshal TNI Hadi Tjahjanto said cyber war is a new battlefield that can trigger tension between countries. Nearly a decade ago, the potential for this war has continued to be echoed.
"It is even predicted that it can trigger tension between countries which will impact the threat of world peace," said the TNI Commander in a speech read by Lt. Gen. TNI (Mar) Bambang Suswantono when opening the 'National Cyber Resources Seminar,' at the House of Change, Pondok Melati, Bekasi, West Java was reported by Antara, Thursday, May 27.
In fact, he continued, attacks on a limited basis had occurred many times by several countries. This condition, according to the commander, can be assumed as a trial. Several countries have been busy to anticipate it.
You do this through the formation of various special units such as a cyber army, cyber naval, cyber air force, cyber military, cyber troops and cyber force.
"This indicates that every country in the world must be able to develop its cyber defense force in order to withstand attacks from various parties. This has resulted in a new threat in the international world, in the form of cyber warfare," said Marshal Hadi.
Government policy on Cyber Defense has been stipulated in Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE Law)
And, Government Regulation Number 82 of 2012 concerning the Implementation of Electronic Systems and Transactions is the Foundation to Build Cybersecurity and National Cyber Defense Organically.
Organically, it means that national security and defense is built by administrators of an electronic system in a universal and sustainable manner. In line with this, cybersecurity can be a form of cyber defense, he said.
On the other hand, cyber defense can be in the form of active defense or passive defense. The passive defense in question could fall within the scope of cybersecurity, he said.
"Cybersecurity and cyber defense organized by the State are intended to maintain the confidentiality, integrity and availability of important information for the state, national security, as well as to maintain electronic systems that are strategic or critical for the continuity of public services or the continuity of the state," said Hadi.
The TNI itself already has a TNI Cyber Unit (Satsiber) which has the main task of carrying out cyber attack steps both as part of defense and as an act of response to the attacks that occur.
