Bandung City Government Investigates the Proposal for Angkot Holidays during New Year's

BANDUNG - The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) is currently studying the proposal of West Java Governor (Jabar) Dedi Mulyadi regarding the temporary suspension of city transportation (angkot) operations in the City of Bandung during the New Year's Eve to reduce traffic density.

The Mayor of Bandung Muhammad Farhan said the proposal needed to be discussed thoroughly by involving various related parties so that the policies taken would not harm the community or transportation actors.

"The fact is, currently many tourists come to Bandung using private vehicles. Inevitably, more space must be given to private vehicle users. But at the same time, angkot must also be able to adapt," said Farhan in Bandung, Tuesday, December 23, reported by ANTARA.

Farhan gave an example of the policy to stop angkot on the Bogor-Puncak route for several days which was considered able to facilitate vehicle traffic.

According to him, a similar policy could be applied in Bandung by adjusting the characteristics of the region.

For this reason, the Bandung City Government will first coordinate with the Bandung Police Traffic Unit, angkot operator cooperatives, and the Land Transportation Organization (Organda).

"If the angkot does not operate, they must use other alternative transportation, while online taxis are not necessarily as cheap as angkot," said Farhan.

Regarding compensation, Farhan said there was a discussion to provide assistance of Rp500 thousand per angkot driver for two days of operational suspension.

He added that the funds were planned to come from the West Java Provincial Government (Pemprov) and the Bandung City Government.

Previously, West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi stated that he wanted to suspend angkot in Bandung in anticipation of traffic congestion in conjunction with the 2025-2026 New Year's holiday.

This, he continued, considering Bandung City as one of the tourist destinations, which is predicted to be visited by hundreds of thousands of domestic and foreign tourists, with many vehicles entering Bandung, so that various solutions need to be prepared.

"This is like in Puncak where there is a policy for four days, all public transportation is asked to take a holiday and is given compensation. In Bandung, we hope the same, in two days, hopefully the budget of the Mayor of Bandung is enough for that," he said.
