KY Completes Checking the Ethical Report of the Judge in the Tom Lembong Case
JAKARTA - The Judicial Commission (KY) has completed examining the report on alleged violations of the Code of Ethics and Conduct for Judges (KEPPH) of the panel of judges who tried the corruption case of importing sugar with the defendant, former Trade Minister Tom Lembong.
"The Tom Lembong case is over, it's just the administrative process for imposing sanctions on the Supreme Court (MA)," said Chairman of the Supervision of Judges and Investigations KY Abhan as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, December 23.
He explained that the recommendation for sanctions from the results of the KY examination is currently in the process of being sent to the Constitutional Court. Later, the imposition of sanctions on the panel of judges will be decided by the Constitutional Court.
However, Abhan admitted that he had not studied the details of the intended recommendation. Because, Tom Lembong's report rolled in mid-2025 during the long-term commissioner's leadership period.
"I haven't studied the details, what the recommendation is, but it's an administrative process for delivery because that's yesterday's leftovers, yes, but it's done, just delivery to the Supreme Court," he said.
It is known that in August last year, KY received a report of alleged violations of the KEPPH submitted by Tom Lembong and his lawyer.
Tom reported to the Corruption Court panel of judges at the Central Jakarta District Court, which sentenced him to four years and six months in prison.
The intended panel of judges stated that Tom Lembong was found guilty of committing a corruption crime that caused losses to state finances of IDR 194.72 billion in the corruption case of sugar imports at the Ministry of Trade in 2015-2016.
However, the trade minister for the period 2015-2016 was then abolished by President Prabowo Subianto so that the criminal incident that had been charged against him was abolished.
Tom was then released from Cipinang Prison, Jakarta, on August 1, 2025.
On the previous occasion, Tom said that the report he submitted to the KY was constructive with the aim of ensuring accountability from the referees in carrying out their duties.
"In accordance with my commitment and my team, we want to continue to fight for the truth and justice for everyone. Not just for myself. Again, if there is a mistake, deviation, injustice, we cannot do what we call negligence. So there must be accountability and we have a completely constructive intention and purpose," said Tom at the KY Office, Tuesday (21/10).
