Krapyak Toll Bus Accident Kills 16 People, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture: We will Evaluate the Regulation
JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) emphasized that his party, which oversees the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub), immediately evaluated the regulations following the bus accident at the Krapyak Toll Exit, Semarang, which killed 16 people.
"Yes, of course we will evaluate," said Coordinating Minister AHY when met on the sidelines of reviewing the readiness of train transportation services during Christmas and New Year 2025/2026 at Gambir Station, Jakarta, Tuesday, quoted by Antara.
He emphasized that when the media crew asked about the government's steps in mitigating the bus accident following the incident on the Krapyak Toll Road, including the possibility of strengthening regulations and a thorough evaluation of transportation safety policies.
In response to this, AHY ensured that evaluations would continue to be carried out on an ongoing basis to strengthen supervision, increase compliance with rules, and prevent similar accidents from occurring in the future.
Regarding the Krapyak Toll incident, AHY also admitted that he had ordered a thorough investigation involving the Ministry of Transportation and the National Police Traffic Directorate to uncover the causes of the accident objectively and ensure recommendations for future improvements.
"We are investigating, I have asked the Ministry of Transportation and also the National Police to investigate until everything is complete. The point is that we don't want any more fatal accidents to happen again," he said.
The main focus is directed at compliance with safety rules including periodic vehicle roadworthiness inspections and driver readiness so that public travel is safe, responsible according to applicable standards.
The Coordinating Minister also emphasized that accident prevention requires joint discipline, consistent law enforcement, and multi-layered supervision so that the risk of road transport fatality can be suppressed sustainably through collaboration between central and regional operators and the wider community.
"And everyone really has to obey, have to comply with the rules. Vehicles are checked properly. Drivers must also be fit and in accordance with the provisions so that once again we prevent victims on the highway," said AHY.
The government invites all stakeholders to actively participate in building a sustainable safety culture so that people's mobility is safe, efficient, and safe.
Previously, the Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) stated that the results of the ramp check of the Cahaya Trans bus with vehicle number B 7201 IV which was involved in a traffic accident at the Krapyak Toll exit junction, Semarang, Central Java, were not roadworthy.
Director General of Land Transportation, Ministry of Transportation, Aan Suhanan said, based on the results of checking on the MitraDarat application, the vehicle was not registered as a tourist transport or AKAP.
"As for the BLU-e data, it was found that the vehicle data was last tested on July 3, 2025. Meanwhile, the results of the ramp check of the vehicle which was carried out on December 9, 2025 were declared unfit for use and prohibited from operating," said Aan in a statement in Jakarta, Monday, December 22.
Aan said the Ministry of Transportation also mourned the incident which occurred on Monday, December 22 at around 00.30 WIB.
"Reported from the field, the bus with 33 passengers departed from Jatiasih Bekasi to D.I Yogyakarta," said Aan.
The bus was speeding and allegedly lost control so it hit the road divider and eventually rolled over. It was also allegedly due to the driver's lack of concentration and not understanding the road terrain when descending the Krapyak junction.
As a result, continued Aan, the bus suffered severe damage to the back and sides due to a hard collision with the road barrier. There were 16 fatalities and one person was lightly injured.
