Nenek Ditolak Bayar Tunai, YLKI: Digital Payment Boleh, Uang Tunai Jangan Disingkirkan
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Consumer Institution Foundation (YLKI) asked business actors not to rule out cash payments even though non-cash payments are considered more efficient.
"Please let business actors provide digital payments, but do not rule out conventional payments or cash," said YLKI Executive Secretary Rio Priambodo through a written statement in Jakarta, Tuesday, December 23.
Rio emphasized that business actors should not close the space for consumers to choose payment methods.
According to him, consumer rights in choosing a way of transacting have been guaranteed in Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection, especially Article 4 regarding consumer rights.
"Don't let certain payment methods actually be used as internal policies that limit consumer choices," he said.
YLKI also asked the government to monitor the implementation of the payment system, so that digitization does not actually make it difficult for consumers to transact.
"We ask business actors to stop generalizing consumers. There are vulnerable consumer groups such as people with disabilities, the elderly, and children who have different characteristics and needs in transactions," said Rio.
Previously, a video circulated on the Instagram social media through the @arli_alcatraz account which featured an elderly woman who was refused cash payment by a bakery at the Monas area Transjakarta Stop on Thursday (18/12).
In the video, a man protests a store's policy of refusing to pay in cash and requiring consumers to use the QRIS payment method.
"I personally express my objection and feel harmed by the implementation of the SOP for the purchase of bread transactions that do not accept cash and must use QRIS," wrote the account.
In response to the incident, the Roti O bakery has provided clarification and an apology through its official Instagram account @rotio.indonesia. Management stated that it would conduct an internal evaluation so that in the future it could provide better service to consumers.
In his clarification, Roti O explained that the use of non-cash applications and transactions is aimed at providing easy access to promotions and discounts for customers.
