PERURI Initiates the Karawang Climate Village Program to Create Resilient and Sustainable Villages

PERURI initiated the creation of the Climate Village Program (ProKlim) to increase community resilience to the impacts of climate change through mitigation efforts at the grassroots level, as well as strengthening sustainable community collaboration in social, economic, and environmental terms.

The opening of this program was held at the Griya Indah Housing Hall, Parungmulya Village, Karawang Regency, some time ago. The event was attended by the Head of the Strategic Corporate Branding & TJSL PERURI Bureau, Yahdi Lil Ihsan; Karawang Parungmulya Village Secretary, Neneng; and the Chairman of the Proklim Griya Indah Group, Indra Puspita.

The Climate Village program is a derivative of a national program carried out by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) to encourage active community involvement in facing the challenges of climate change.

As a form of commitment to sustainable development, PERURI has supported the implementation of the Climate Village Program at the Griya Indah Housing since 2022. This support is part of PERURI's commitment to improving the quality of the environment based on community empowerment through the Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) Program.

This year, the implementation of the Climate Village Program is directed at several main focuses, namely improving food security, integrated waste management, developing a green economy, and strengthening the role and participation of the community. The four focuses are designed to be integrated so that they can provide environmental benefits while improving the welfare and independence of the Parungmulya Village community.

"The Climate Village program is a real effort to strengthen community resilience to climate change through active citizen involvement. This program not only has an impact on a better environment, but also encourages community welfare and independence," Yahdi explained, in a press release in Jakarta, Monday, December 22.

In the series of activities, a symbolic handover of hydroponic plants, as well as waste management facilities with the Takakura method, was carried out as part of efforts to strengthen household-based waste management. In addition, the inauguration of the Green House (GH) was also carried out as a form of PERURI's support for food security and community environmental education.

The Chairman of the ProKlim Griya Indah Group, Indra Puspita, conveyed that the success of the Climate Village Program is inseparable from continuous collaboration and assistance.

"This Climate Village program would not have been possible without the collaboration and support of PERURI. For three years we have been guided, given knowledge, and facilitated, until finally the community is able to run an independent and sustainable environmental program," said Indra.

PERURI's support for the Climate Village Program has also received appreciation from the village government. Neneng, Secretary of Parungmulya Village, said that the benefits of the PERURI TJSL Program were felt directly by the community.

"The benefits of the TJSL PERURI Program are felt by the residents of Parungmulya Village. This support helps the community in managing agriculture and waste sustainably, so that it has a real impact on the environment and daily life," said Neneng.

Through the sustainability of the Climate Village Program, PERURI hopes that the spirit of community togetherness can continue to be maintained while encouraging the creation of a more prosperous, self-sufficient, and resilient environment in the face of the impacts of climate change. By directly involving the community, ProKlim encourages concrete actions that have a significant impact on environmental resilience and the welfare of residents.
