16 People Died, Commission V of the DPR Asked for a Full Investigation of the PO Cahaya Trans Accident
Member of Commission V of the House of Representatives Irmawanmeminta agar kecelakaan bus PO Cahaya Trans di Tol Exit Semarang yang menewaskan 16 orang untuk diinvestigasi secara menyeluruh.
According to him, the results of this investigation are crucial steps to prevent the recurrence of traffic accidents, especially in the midst of increasing community mobility during the long Christmas holidays 2025 and New Year 2026.
"We share the grief and concern over this accident that killed 16 people. We ask that a thorough and transparent investigation be conducted to find out the cause of the accident, whether there are elements of negligence, and who is responsible," Irmawan told reporters, Monday, December 22.
The member of the commission who deals with transportation emphasized that the investigation should not be carried out in a partial manner. However, the examination must include the technical feasibility of the vehicle, including the age of the bus, engine condition, braking system, and KIR test history.
In addition, Irmawan emphasized that the condition of the bus driver must also be the main concern.
"It needs to be investigated whether the bus really meets the standards of being roadworthy. The condition of the driver must also be thoroughly examined, starting from working hours, rest time, to the possibility of driving in a state of fatigue or lack of sleep," said Irmawan.
"Human error factors often start from drivers who are not in good condition," he continued.
Irmawan also asked the police to conduct a comprehensive investigation of the crime scene to find out whether there were any violations, such as excessive speed or driving in a way that endangered the safety of passengers.
"We ask that it be investigated whether the vehicle was traveling above the permitted speed limit or there were indications of reckless driving. All of this can be proven through the investigation of the crime scene and technical examination of the vehicle," he said.
Irmawan reminded the importance of a cooperative attitude from the bus operator during the investigation process. He warned that there should be no information that was covered up because public safety was the main interest.
"The bus PO must be cooperative and open. Nothing should be hidden. All data and information are needed so that the causes of the accident can be revealed clearly and thoroughly," he said.
The legislator from the Aceh District also asked all public transportation operators, especially bus POs, to really comply with operational eligibility standards before running transportation services. With the increasing number of passengers during the holiday season, said Irmawan, safety aspects should not be compromised.
"We emphasize that all bus POs must comply with safety provisions and operational standards. Passenger safety must be the top priority without compromise in any form," he concluded.
