The Story of Uwais Al Qarni: A Young Man Who Was Loyal to His Mother and Prophet Muhammad​

In an article entitled "Educational Values of Morality in the Story of Uwais Al-Qarni" written by Rianawati and M. Edi Kurnanto (Journal of Research and Thought of Islamic Education: 2019), it is explained that there are several stories of Uwais Al Qarni that can be used as lessons as follows.

It is said that in the time of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, there lived a young man named Uwais Al Qarni who lived in the country of Yemen. Uwais himself came from a very poor family with a blind and paralyzed mother. Even so, Uwais was very loyal to his mother. He even willingly worked as a goat herder for a rich merchant.

It is worth noting that Uwais was born when the Prophet Muhammad migrated to Madinah. Because of the very loud spread of Islam, Uwais entered as one of the people who wanted to embrace Islam. Unfortunately, this decision made others who disagreed with him angry.

Until one day, Uwais was arrested by the Bazan army. The arrest was made because Uwais was considered to have defected and did not want to worship the god they worshiped. The Bazan army then tortured Uwais in various ways, including beating him until he bled.

Uwais was also tied to a pole so that all the residents of Yemen would witness Uwais and make him an example. However, this incident did not make Uwais flinch, he still believed that Allah SWT is his Lord and Muhammad is his Prophet

Uwais is known as a child who is loyal to his mother. In fact, he is loyal to accompany and care for his mother. Until one day, his mother asked him to perform the hajj. His mother needed Uwais to carry her during the performance of the worship.

When it came to the Hajj season, Uwais actually carried his sick mother to Mecca. Even though his mother's body was heavy, Uwais still carried her during the Hajj journey. This attitude was based on the sincere intention to fulfill his mother's desire to perform the Hajj.

After a long journey, they arrived at the Kaaba, which made the mother touched. Uwais prayed for his beloved mother that her sins would be forgiven. Her mother asked about her sins, and Uwais assured her mother that with the forgiveness of sins, she would go to heaven.

Uwais' prayer was answered, his mother recovered from her illness. Uwais proved that loyalty and sacrifice to the mother bring blessings and goodness, and show sincere love in fulfilling every mother's request.
