PKS First Examined Golkar's Proposal for the DPRD Election

JAKARTA - The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) is studying the proposal of the Golkar Party regarding the regional head election (Pilkada) through the Regional Representative Council (DPRD). PKS Secretary General Muhammad Kholid stated that his party would choose a good election system for the sustainability of democracy in Indonesia.

"Regarding the election of regional heads, we are studying which is the best for the future of our democracy. Whether (election) directly or indirectly," said Kholid, Monday, December 22.

Kholid emphasized that his party had not yet been able to decide on the attitude regarding the proposal for the Regional Election through the DPRD. He said, PKS is still continuing to open a space for dialogue and accepting input from various elements of society before determining the official attitude.

"We also received input from the community, organizations, NGOs, campuses, and of course the constituents of the PKS family," said Kholid.

"There will be a time when we will officially convey it through the Faction in the DPR RI," continued the DPR member from the West Java VI District.

Previously, the 2025 I National Leadership Meeting (Rapimnas) of the Golkar Party produced a number of recommendations, one of which was that the Regional Head Election (Pilkada) was chosen through the Regional Representative Council (DPRD).

Golkar Party Chairman Bahlil Lahadalia said the recommendation was conveyed as a form of implementation of people's sovereignty, with emphasis on public involvement and participation in the implementation process.

"Golkar Party proposes the Regional Head Election through the Regional Representative Council," Bahlil said in a press release received in Jakarta, Sunday, December 21.
