Last Effort at the Supreme Court, Lawyer Ronald Tannur Still Sentenced to 14 Years in Prison
JAKARTA - The Supreme Court (MA) rejected the cassation application filed by the lawyer of the convicted Ronald Tannur, Lisa Rachmat, so that the 14-year prison sentence imposed at the appeal level was declared to remain in force.
"Reject the cassation of PU (public prosecutor) and the defendant," read the excerpt from the Decision on Case No. 12346 K/PID.SUS/2025 which was reported from the MA RI Case Information page, Antara, Monday, December 22.
The cassation case was examined by a panel of judges headed by Chief Justice Jupriyadi with members Sinintha Yuliansih Sibarani and Suradi. The decision was made last Friday and is currently in the process of being minuted.
With the ruling, the Constitutional Court did not change the verdict of the previous level of court. This means that Lisa Rachmat will still serve the sentence as decided by the DKI Jakarta High Court, namely a prison sentence of 14 years.
The appeal panel previously increased Lisa Rachmat's sentence compared to the first-instance verdict. In addition to a 14-year prison sentence, Lisa was also sentenced to a fine of Rp. 750 million with a six-month imprisonment.
The appeal verdict was heavier than the verdict of the Corruption Court of Justice at the Central Jakarta District Court which had previously sentenced him to 11 years in prison and a fine of Rp750 million with six months in prison.
Lisa Rachmat was found guilty in the case of a conspiracy in the form of bribery for conditioning the handling of the Ronald Tannur case at the Surabaya District Court to the Supreme Court.
The bribe was given to condition that the panel of judges at the first instance court would give a free verdict against Ronald Tannur and the panel of judges at the cassation level would strengthen the free verdict.
In this case, Lisa Rachmat was proven to have violated Article 6 paragraph (1) letter a in conjunction with Articles 18 and 15 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code. 1.
