The Ministry of Transportation Says the Trans Cahaya Bus that Rolled Over at the Krapyak Toll Exit is Not Illegal and Registered
JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation revealed that the Cahaya Trans bus that was involved in an accident and overturned at the Krapyak Toll Exit junction, Semarang, Central Java, was declared unfit for use and prohibited from operating.
Director General of Land Transportation, Aan Suhanan, said the results of the search for the Directorate General of Land Transportation through the MitraDarat application showed that the vehicle was not registered as a tourist transport or inter-city inter-provincial transport (AKAP).
"For BLU-e data, it was found that the vehicle data was last tested on July 3, 2025, while the results of the rampchek vehicle conducted on December 9, 2025 were declared unfit for use and prohibited from operating," Aan said in an official statement, Monday, December 22.
To investigate the cause of the accident, the Directorate General of Land Transportation has deployed officers to the location and coordinated with the police, the Central Java Class II Land Transportation Management Office, the Central Java Provincial Transportation Office, Jasa Marga, and the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT).
Aan appealed to all bus companies to ensure that the fleet operated meets technical and administrative requirements in accordance with the permit, and to conduct vehicle inspections before operating.
"The owner of the bus company is obliged to operate a fleet that meets the technical requirements of roadworthiness and completes the administrative requirements according to its license," he said.
In addition, continued Aan, it must also check the condition of the vehicle before operating. And, ensure that every driver is required to check his health.
"Also ensure the availability of backup drivers, and ensure that drivers have mastered the potential risks and routes of travel," he explained.
Regarding the cause of the accident, Aan said the incident was suspected to have occurred due to the driver's lack of concentration and not understanding the road terrain at the scene.
"The bus was speeding and allegedly lost control so it hit the road divider and finally rolled over. This is also allegedly due to the driver's lack of concentration and not understanding the road terrain when descending the Krapyak junction," he said.
As a result, Aan continued, a traffic accident also occurred on Monday, December 22, around 00.30 WIB. The bus with the police number B 7201 IV carrying 33 passengers was traveling from Jatiasih, Bekasi to Yogyakarta Special Region. It suffered quite severe damage to the back and side due to a hard collision with the road barrier.
"There were 16 fatalities and one person was lightly injured," said Aan.
