Kia PV5 Electric Van Earns Top Euro NCAP Rating

JAKARTA - The trend of electric commercial vehicles continues to grow, but only a few are really able to meet business needs, from efficient, tough, and safe. Kia PV5 can be said to be a car that meets these things.

This versatile electric van has just recorded an important achievement by achieving the highest safety rating of five stars from Euro NCAP. This is an important benchmark for business actors who prioritize fleet safety.

The Kia PV5 appears as an electric multipurpose vehicle that is not only efficient for daily operational needs, but also excels in various major safety categories. From passenger protection, safety assistance systems, to post-crash safety.

The complete ADAS technology is a driving factor in the success of the PV5 in achieving high scores in the Euro NCAP real-world simulation. Features such as AEB, Lane Support System, to Speed Assistance System are standard, providing additional protection for drivers, passengers, and other road users.

"PV5 opens a new chapter in practical electric mobility, offering spaciousness and modular flexibility for everyday use," said Executive Vice President and Head of KIA PBV Business Division Sangdae Kim, quoted from Electrek, Monday, December 22.

"The highest five-star Euro NCAP rating is a clear validation of its safety performance and will be a strong momentum as Kia expands its PBV lineup across Europe," he continued.

Euro NCAP highlights the strong performance of a number of PV5 safety features in various scenarios. This includes inter-vehicle responsiveness, protection for pedestrians behind vehicles, as well as positive results in most collision tests involving pedestrians and cyclists.

In terms of size, the PV5 is in a similar segment to the Ford Transit Connect or Ram ProMaster City. The cargo space reaches around 5 thousand liters, making it an interesting choice for short-distance deliveries or operational needs in dense urban areas.

For the global market, the PV5 is available with several battery options, including a 43.3 kWh Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP), as well as a 51.5 kWh and 71.2 kWh Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese (NCM) capacity. The longest range variant can reach around 250 miles, making the PV5 a practical and affordable alternative compared to larger electric vans.

Interestingly, large-sized vans that have dominated the commercial segment do not necessarily have as high a safety value as the PV5. With five Euro NCAP stars in hand, Kia confirms that safety and efficiency can now go hand in hand in professional mobility.
