BYD Ready New Pickup Using PHEV Engine for European Market

JAKARTA - Chinese brand BYD is preparing a new pickup truck, which is rumored to target a more premium segment.

Based on the report of Carscoops, quoted, Monday, December 22, the certainty refers to a patent document registered at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), and is designed to be under the larger Shark 6 model.

From the existing patent images, this pickup truck is a car-based pickup truck with a monocoque body that is very different from many pickup truck models, which usually come with a ladder frame concept.

Broadly speaking, BYD takes a common thread by choosing a much softer aesthetic for its latest pickup. There are many lines and curves that are very similar to the Seal U crossover, which means this is more of a conversion, not a completely new development.

The front features a bold trapezoid grille with a winged top similar to the Atto3. Assertive fenders and grooved doors add depth to the side profile, while the rear trunk area blends seamlessly with the cabin.

The detailed specifications have not been revealed, but the interior will most likely have a lot in common with the Sealion 6. That means BYD is not pursuing a rough and tough pickup truck look, as this model is more aimed at the upper class.

Other flagship features include a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, head-up display (HUD), panoramic sunroof, wireless CarPlay, Android Auto, and phone charging. The flat floor and spacious space will benefit rear passengers, while the cargo bed will offer a unique fastening solution and is already available V2L.

As for the heart of the car, BYD has attached a PHEV engine which is estimated to combine a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with two electric motors for all-wheel drive. The total output power of the system reaches 319 hp and its torque reaches 550 Nm. It is likely that this car will use a BYD Blade 18.3 kWh battery.
