Fatal Accident of PO Cahaya Trans Bus in Semarang, Driver and Kernet are Safe
SEMARANG - A fatal accident involving a PO Cahaya Trans bus at the Krapyak Toll exit junction, Semarang, Monday, December 22, early morning, killed 15 people. The bus driver and conductor were reported to be safe although the vehicle was destroyed by hitting the road barrier.
The identities of the crew of the PO Cahaya Trans, namely Gilang (driver) and Robet (kernet) managed to survive the fatal accident that befell the PO Cahaya Trans bus. In fact, the bus with the police number B 7201 IV that they were driving was severely damaged and resulted in 15 passengers being killed on the spot.
The Jakarta-Yogyakarta route bus was launched at high speed when entering the sharp curve of the connecting line (Ramp 3). As a result of losing control, the bus's nose hit the concrete road barrier. Although the front of the vehicle suffered massive damage, Gilang and Robet escaped death and were among the 19 survivors evacuated by officers.
Head of the Semarang Basarnas Office Budiono stated that all victims, both survivors and deceased, had been evacuated to the hospital. "The driver and the driver are currently under medical treatment along with other survivors. 34 people died, 15 of whom died," said Budiono, Monday morning.
The injured victims, including the bus crew, are currently being treated intensively at Dr. Kariadi Hospital, Tugu Hospital, and Columbia Asia Semarang Hospital. Several other survivors were reported to have suffered serious injuries and broken bones due to the violent collision.
The police are still investigating the exact cause of the accident, including investigating the statements of the driver and the kernet to find out whether the incident was triggered by human negligence or a failure of the braking system. The focus of the officers is currently to identify the bodies of passengers whose identities have not been recorded.
