Bogor Waste Reaches 4,000 Tons per Day, PSEL Galuga Project Launched
BOGOR - Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq reviewed the location of the planned construction of a Waste to Energy (WTE) or Waste to Energy (PSEL) facility at the Galuga Landfill, Leuwiliang District, Bogor Regency, Sunday, December 21.
Hanif said that the stages leading up to the activation of PSEL in Galuga had been quite complete. Currently, the procurement of goods and services has been handled by Danantara and is entering the next stage.
"The information we received, there are a number of units that have entered the clarification stage to proceed to the next process," said Hanif when reviewing the location.
He explained that the Bogor City Government and the Bogor Regency Government had prepared land of approximately five hectares for the construction of the PSEL facility. The land, he said, had gone through an initial study and would be followed up with a more detailed technical study.
Hanif hopes that the PSEL project in Galuga can be realized soon considering that the garbage generated in the Bogor Raya area currently reaches around 4,000 tons per day.
"This is a problem that must be resolved together and as soon as possible. Groundbreaking is expected to be carried out by Danantara in early 2026. The information is February, but to be able to operate fully still takes about two years," he said.
According to Hanif, the waste problem in Bogor and other areas in Indonesia is already in an emergency phase, so that its handling must be carried out seriously and collaboratively. Bogor's position as the upstream area of the Ciliwung and Cisadane rivers is also considered strategic because it has a direct impact on downstream areas such as Depok, Tangerang, and Jakarta.
"Bogor has a very important role for the downstream area. Therefore, I appreciate the hard work of the Mayor of Bogor and the Regent of Bogor who have shown seriousness in dealing with this waste problem," he said.
Previously, Danantara had verified the readiness of the PSEL WTE development plan at the Galuga Landfill. The verification includes the validity of data, completeness of land administration, licensing, and the results of feasibility studies that have been prepared by the Bogor City Government.
Bogor Mayor Dedie A. Rachim said the results of the verification of Danantara showed a strong impetus for accelerated coordination so that the project could run without obstacles.
"Danantara's desire is to ensure that there is no excess of this plan. So when the construction and groundbreaking are carried out, there are no more issues that could potentially hinder," he said.
In addition to the construction of the PSEL facility, the Bogor City Government and the Bogor Regency Government also plan to conduct data collection on people who work as scavengers around the Galuga landfill. The data collection is carried out to prepare the right empowerment scheme, including the use of residues from waste processing.
"For example, for building materials such as bricks, fertilizer, and other products. But this must be locked well so that this project does not attract new scavengers. Those who are now listed, then find the best solution," said Dedie.
