ASDP Emphasizes Prioritizing Safety at Christmas and New Year Holidays
JAKARTA - The President Director of PT Angkutan Sungai, Danau, dan Penyeberangan (ASDP) Indonesia Ferry (Persero) Heru Widodo emphasized that the transportation of Christmas and New Year 2025/2026 prioritizes safety by ensuring that the loading and unloading process and sailing are carried out carefully, measured and professionally for reliable services.
"In dynamic maritime weather conditions, safety remains the company's top priority. Every process of unloading, loading, to our sailing is done carefully and measured," said Heru in a statement in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Monday, December 22.
He also conveyed that operational adjustments were made so that the safety of passengers, crew, and all service users was maintained, even though at certain times it had an impact on slowing down the service.
Furthermore, he said that ASDP continued to strengthen coordination with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), TNI/Polri, the Office of the City Government and Port Authority (KSOP), BPTD, and other related agencies through the Port Operational Control Center (POCC) to realize the smoothness and security of Christmas and New Year transportation.
Heru also appealed to service users to monitor official weather information periodically and not force travel if the weather conditions are not safe.
ASDP strengthens services on 15 strategic routes to ensure safe, orderly, and comfortable crossings, while maintaining the smoothness of community mobility during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year transportation.
The routes are Merak-Bakauheni, Ketapang-Gilimanuk, Anchor-Lembar, Kayangan-Pototano, Tanjung Api-Api-Tanjung Kelian, Telaga Punggur-Tanjung Uban, Ajibata-Ambarita, Nias-Sibolga, Padangbai-Lembar, Kariangau-Penajam, Bajoe-Kolaka, Bira-Pamatata, Bitung-Ternate, Hunimua-Waipirit, and Bolok-Rote.
He said these routes were the main focus, because of their strategic role in supporting local homecoming, tourism, and logistics distribution during Christmas and New Year.
ASDP said based on projections, passenger movements on 15 national monitoring routes are estimated to reach around 547 thousand people, growing 4.3 percent compared to Christmas and New Year's Eve, while vehicles are predicted to reach 868 thousand units or increase 8.9 percent.
The peak of the density is estimated to occur on December 23-24, 2025.
Previously, the Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Dudy Purwagandhi emphasized that safety and security were the highest priority in the implementation of Christmas and New Year's transportation due to the high potential for community movement.
Dudy said based on the results of the survey, it is estimated that as many as 119.5 million people will travel during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
"Therefore, safety aspects must be the main concern of all parties," said Dudy at the opening of the 2025 Christmas Transportation Center Coordination Post (Posko) and 2026 New Year at the Ministry of Transportation Headquarters, Jakarta, Thursday (18/12).
The Minister of Transportation also emphasized four main focuses of the implementation of Christmas and New Year transportation, namely safety and security, synergy and cross-sector collaboration, attention to operational details, and readiness to face uncertainties and emergency conditions.
