Tired of Fake AI Movie Trailers on YouTube? Now There's Good News

JAKARTA - A lot of AI content has found a place on YouTube: open a new account, and in just a few recommendations, you'll already see gen-AI videos. AI video content is generally allowed on YouTube, of course, but some of it violates the platform's policies - and now, two major perpetrators have been removed from the platform.

According to a report by Deadline, YouTube has blocked two large channels that have been distributing AI-made film trailers. The problem is not with the trailers themselves, but with the way they are presented: the YouTube channels Screen Culture and KH Studio uploaded a large number of AI film trailers without clear labels, which YouTube says violates the platform's policies regarding spam and misleading metadata accuracy.

The report mentions that both channels had previously lost monetization earlier this year due to similar violations, but they managed to get back on YouTube by labeling their AI-made clips as fan trailers or parodies. However, later, their uploads no longer included such qualifications, a change that eventually led to account blocking.

Both channels have caught the attention of viewers by creating film trailers that combine original footage with AI-generated scenes, often at very high speeds. Reports say that Screen Culture alone has created 23 different bootleg trailers for the Marvel film The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

The removal of Screen Culture and KH Studio won't completely solve the problem of fake movie trailers on YouTube, but their absence from search results and recommendation videos should feel significant: before being blocked, videos from both channels had collectively been watched more than a billion times.
