Basarnas Lampung Tightens Sunda Strait Patrol During Christmas and New Year Holidays

JAKARTA - The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) Lampung has increased its readiness in the Sunda Strait waters to ensure the safety of navigation during the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 holiday period.

The effort is carried out through routine patrols in the sea lanes and the placement of standby personnel in the Bakauheni Port area. Head of the Bakauheni SAR Post, Rezie Kuswara, said that security and SAR services were carried out for 24 hours to anticipate potential maritime accidents.

"A total of 15 personnel from the Lampung Basarnas Pos SAR Bakauheni have been deployed at the port, and personnel have also intensified patrols in the middle of the Sunda Strait so that if there is a maritime accident, the team can immediately carry out an evacuation," he said in South Lampung, Sunday.

He explained that intensive supervision was carried out to ensure that people's sea travel remained safe during the long holiday period at the end of the year. His party also paid attention to weather developments which were considered quite risky.

Based on information from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), there are three cyclonic systems in the Indonesian region that have the potential to cause heavy rain, strong winds, and large sea waves in a number of waters, including the Sunda Strait.

"This monitoring is carried out to succeed in the safety and comfort during Nataru. so far, the long holiday homecoming flow of Christmas and New Year is in a safe and smooth state," he said.

Rezie added that Basarnas Lampung also coordinated intensively with ASDP, TNI, Polri, and other related elements to ensure the smooth flow of crossings during the Nataru period.

"We will continue to carry out security and monitoring during Nataru (Christmas and New Year). And not only in the port, in the tourist attractions of South Lampung, we will also carry out special pam at Basarnas posts," he said.
