After the Fire, Traders at the Kramat Jati Central Market Resume Selling at the TPS
Traders at the Kramat Jati Central Market, East Jakarta, who were affected by the fire on Monday, December 15, are now starting to occupy temporary shelters (TPS) prepared by the government. Traders can already use the location to resume business activities.
The Assistant for Economy and Finance of the DKI Jakarta Regional Secretary, Suharini Eliawati, said that the process of moving traders to the TPS had begun. Traders are allowed to activate their respective kiosks while waiting for the facilities to be completed by Perumda Pasar Jaya.
"Traders can start activating their kiosks at the TPS starting today while continuing to refine the location by Pasar Jaya," said Suharini Eliawati in an official statement in Jakarta, Sunday.
He explained that previously traders had followed a series of socialization, taking kiosk numbers, to the placement process at the TPS. The temporary shelter location is about 50 meters from the market area affected by the fire.
One of the traders who was a victim of the fire, Ahmad Alam Syah, assessed that the facilities at the TPS were adequate to support trading activities. For him, the most important thing is that traders can return to selling and earn an income.
The same thing was conveyed by Suparto, a papaya trader who has been selling at the Kramat Jati Central Market for 15 years. He hopes that the TPS construction, which can accommodate around 350 kiosks on a parking lot of approximately 1,800 square meters, can be completed soon.
"We want the kiosks that burned to be rebuilt and renovated as soon as possible so that we can trade again in the original place," he said.
Based on the data, the fire affected around 350 business units, most of which were occupied by 117 fruit traders, especially bananas and papayas.
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has also provided cash assistance of Rp5 million to each affected trader as an effort to maintain business continuity until the market can operate normally again.
In addition to this assistance, the DKI Provincial Government provides easy access to financing through the submission of business loans at Bank Jakarta. All market areas affected by the fire have been insured, so that the renovation and rebuilding process will be carried out through the insurance claim mechanism.
In the future, the local government ensures that there is an increase in safety systems in the market area, including the addition of fire hydrant facilities. Security aspects will also be strengthened in the renovation process, especially to minimize the risk of electrical short circuits which are suspected to be the cause of the fire.
