The Recovery of Telecommunications Infrastructure in Aceh Has Increased Rapidly to 80 Percent
JAKARTA - As of Friday, December 18, the recovery of telecommunications infrastructure in Aceh Province has gradually improved, where 80.63 percent of BTS towers (sites) have returned to function.
From a total of 23 regencies/cities affected by floods and landslides, the Ministry of Communication and Digital noted that network recovery in 20 regencies/cities was above 50 percent.
Minister of Communication and Information Meutya Hafid emphasized that the restoration of connectivity was aimed at ensuring the basic needs of the community, especially in areas that still have limited access to communication.
"I ask operators to focus on recovery efforts in districts/cities whose recovery rate is still below 50 percent, namely Aceh Tamiang Regency, Bener Meriah Regency, and Gayo Lues Regency. Connectivity in these areas is important so that residents do not feel isolated," said Meutya in an official release quoted Sunday, December 21.
According to Meutya, the presence of communication networks in the midst of disasters plays a direct role in supporting the safety of residents, coordination of assistance, emergency services, and the gradual recovery of social and economic activities.
The government also appreciates the hard work of telecommunications operators, field technicians, and all related parties who continue to work in the midst of limitations and risks to ensure that people can reconnect.
Apart from Aceh, the recovery of telecommunications infrastructure in West Sumatra has been much better, namely the recovery of BTS has reached 99.14 percent, while in North Sumatra it has reached 97.35 percent.
The government will continue to provide updates periodically and ensure that the process of restoring connectivity continues to reach all affected areas.
