Meluap River Flow, Flood of the Rendam Area of Guci Tegal Tourist Area

BANJAR - Heavy flooding hit the Guci hot spring tourist area, Tegal Regency, Central Java, on Saturday, December 20. The incident occurred at around 16.30 WIB after heavy rain hit the upstream area for a long time, causing the river to overflow.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said that flash floods had a direct impact on the Pancuran 13 tourist area in the Guci area. The rapid flow of water caused the hot spring bath pool to be swept away and a number of facilities were covered by flood materials.

"Flash floods brought mud, sand, and stone materials that covered part of the tourist area. For the safety of visitors, the Guci tourist area is temporarily closed," said Abdul, quoted Sunday, December 21.

Based on field monitoring, flood material settles at a number of tourist attractions, thus disrupting access and activities in the area. However, until this report was compiled, there was no information regarding casualties due to the incident.

Abdul said the Tegal Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency team had arrived at the location shortly after the incident to conduct a quick assessment and emergency handling on the ground.

"The local BPBD immediately carried out assessments and initial handling measures to ensure safe conditions and minimize the impact of the aftermath," he said.

BNPB also appealed to people living along the Gung River, especially in the Balapulang, Dukuhwaru, Adiwerna areas to Pantura, to increase vigilance. Residents are asked to monitor weather conditions and follow the instructions of officers if there is an increase in water discharge.

"Potential heavy rain can still occur, so community preparedness is very important to avoid the risk of subsequent disasters," said Abdul.
