Cloudflare Records 19 Percent Surge in Internet Traffic in 2025 and a Record DDoS Attack

JAKARTA - A Cloudflare report that photographed global internet behavior throughout 2025, noted that global internet traffic grew 19 percent year-on-year (YoY), as people's dependence on the internet increased.

In its report, Cloudflare revealed that Google and Meta retained their positions as the world's two most popular internet services for the fourth consecutive year.

Meanwhile, ChatGPT maintains its number one position in the rapidly growing Generative AI category in 2025.

However, the increase in internet activity is also accompanied by serious challenges. Throughout 2025, Cloudflare recorded more than 25 record-breaking large-scale Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks.

"Although we celebrate some of the internet's most important achievements this year, we face a formidable challenge," said Matthew Prince, CEO and co-founder of Cloudflare in a statement quoted Sunday, December 21.

In the context of large-scale cyber incidents, Cloudflare's services that have recently occurred have also been in the spotlight. Because Cloudflare's disruption has a wide impact on access to various global digital sites and services such as Canva and Zoom.

Cloudflare experienced a significant global service outage on November 18, due to a bug in the Bot Management feature logic that affected many services and sites that rely on its infrastructure.

The next disruption occurred on December 5, 2025, starting at around 15:47 WIB and lasted about 25-25 minutes until around 16:12 WIB, when services returned to normal.

However, Cloudflare stated that this disruption was not caused by a cyber attack, but rather due to internal configuration changes implemented to mitigate software vulnerabilities.
