Xiaomi 17 Ultra Will Come with 3x to 7x Continuous Optical Zoom

JAKARTA - Xiaomi 17 Ultra is rumored to bring the latest camera technology in the form of a continuous optical zoom with a magnification range of around 3x to 7x. This flagship phone is rumored to be launched in China next week, with the launch date rumor leading to December 26, 2025, before finally being marketed globally.

Like its predecessor, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, the main focus of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra remains on the camera sector with support for Leica technology. However, Xiaomi is expected to introduce new innovations, one of which is continuous optical zoom technology that allows you to zoom in on images without losing detail.

Based on the latest report, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra telephoto camera will be equipped with continuous optical zoom technology with a focal length of 70mm to 100mm. The range includes 3x to 7x magnification, allowing users to get sharper photos at various zoom levels.

Continuous optical zoom technology itself is an advanced imaging system in which the lens physically moves to produce magnification without loss of quality. Unlike fixed lens or digital zoom systems, this technology maintains image sharpness at every zoom point, so that the photo results remain clear without breaking effects.

In terms of design, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is confirmed to carry a circular-shaped rear camera module. This has been revealed through a number of direct photo leaks as well as images that are suspected to be special photography accessories. The camera module is rumored to contain a 200MP Samsung S5KHPE sensor that supports continuous optical zoom technology.

In addition, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is also said to be the first phone to be equipped with a Leica APO zoom camera. This technology is claimed to be able to produce high-quality macro photos in various lighting conditions.

Although it offers significant improvements in the camera sector, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is expected to carry only three rear cameras, fewer than the Xiaomi 15 Ultra which has four sensors. In addition to the 200MP camera, this phone is likely to be equipped with a 50MP OVX10500U main camera and an ultrawide 50MP OV50M or 50MP S5KJN5 camera.

For other specifications, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is rumored to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, an OLED 6.85-inch screen with a high refresh rate, and 100W fast charging support.

After its debut in China, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is expected to start being marketed globally in the first quarter of 2026.
