Yusril: President Prabowo approves the formulation of the PP for the reform of the National Police

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Legal, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra stated that President Prabowo Subianto had approved the formulation of a Government Regulation (PP) that would clearly and comprehensively regulate civil positions that can be filled by members of the National Police.

This announcement was made by Yusril after attending the Coordinating Meeting at the Ministerial and Head of Agency level of the Republic of Indonesia which was also attended by the National Police Reform Acceleration Commission, in Jakarta, Saturday, December 20.

"To find a solution to solve this problem, with the approval of the President, it will be formulated in the form of a government regulation (PP). Because it can cover all agencies, ministries, and institutions regulated by government regulations," said Yusril.

The PP is expected to be an urgent solution to quell the polemics that have developed in society regarding the placement of members of the National Police in civil positions. This regulation will be a follow-up to the Police Law, the State Civil Apparatus Law (ASN), and the Constitutional Court (MK) Decision Number 114/PUU-XXIII/2025.

Yusril targets the PP to be completed by the end of January 2026 at the latest. "Yes as soon as possible. Hopefully it can be completed by the end of January, at the latest it has issued the PP," he said.

The drafting process will involve the National Police Reform Acceleration Commission, the Ministry of State Secretariat, and the Ministry of State Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reform (KemenPAN-RB). The results will be reported directly to President Prabowo.

In addition to the PP, Yusril also mentioned the possibility of changes to laws in the future. "Mr. Jimly Asshiddiqie as Chairman of the National Police Reform Acceleration Commission said that it was also possible to change the law. But it still takes time because the commission is still fulfilling its duties," added Yusril.

This step shows the commitment of the Prabowo Subianto government to accelerate reforms in the Polri body, as well as answering various criticisms and polemics that have emerged regarding the assignment of police officers to civilian positions.
