Sales are Slow, There is No Model 2026 for VW ID.Buzz

JAKARTA - Volkswagen has confirmed that its iconic electric model, the ID. Buzz, will be absent from the United States market in 2026. This decision raises big questions about the future of a car that has been touted since the beginning as a savior of the brand's image.

The news of the vacuum of the ID. Buzz was previously revealed through reports from a number of customers and dealers who said the 2026 model was canceled. A Volkswagen spokesperson later confirmed the information to Carscoops.

"After conducting a careful assessment of the current EV market conditions, we have made a strategic decision not to continue production of the ID. Buzz MY26 for the US market," he said, quoted Saturday, December 20.

This statement was strengthened after a Reddit user claimed to have received information directly from a dealer. The dealer stated that the current stock of units is the last to be marketed.

"We have been informed that this model will be discontinued, and no 2026 model is planned. The stock we have now is the last available stock," he wrote.

However, Volkswagen denied the assumption that the ID. Buzz would be completely discontinued. The company confirmed that the car is still an important asset for the brand, and this step is only part of a long-term strategy, and preparing for the launch of the next generation.

"That's not accurate. We are giving this direction to the dealers. The ID. Buzz continues to serve as an important flagship product for the Volkswagen brand, and keeping its presence in the market remains a top priority," said the Volkswagen spokesperson.

"This approach allows us to focus our resources more effectively on existing inventory and support your retail performance throughout the rest of the 2025 model year, ensuring a strong foundation as we prepare for the 2027 model year transition next year," he added.

Although there are no official details regarding the 2027 model, the indication is that the ID. Buzz will return with updates that are being prepared. However, the path to returning to the market is certainly not easy.

The electric vehicle market is facing a sharp sales decline this year. The combination of regulations, tariffs, tax incentives, and selling prices is a major challenge for manufacturers. In the case of the ID. Buzz, the price is the main highlight.

Even though it carries a modern design with a touch of nostalgia, the price tag is far from the image of the original VW which is simple and affordable. If it is true that it will return in 2027, Volkswagen must prepare a strong strategy, starting from the price, significant feature improvements.
