GWM Reveals New Brand of Retro-Inspired Cars
JAKARTA - Great Wall Motors (GWM) again caught the attention of the global automotive industry. GWM's drive by wire chassis chief engineer Li Fei uploaded a teaser on the Weibo platform that hinted at the birth of the manufacturer's new brand.
"The sixth GWM brand will soon be here?" wrote Li Fei in his post accompanied by a leaked image of a classic-style vehicle.
Li emphasized that this new model is not just an addition to the existing product line. He mentioned that the car is part of a new series of vehicles with a completely different design approach and existing models.
"In terms of exterior design, this car is very different from the five existing GWM brands. This car does not follow the mainstream Haval SUV line, nor the tough offroad style of Tank. This car is also not in line with the luxury approach based on Wey technology, nor the position of the trendy electric vehicle Ora, and does not fit the characteristics of the Great Wall Power pickup truck," said Li on his Weibo account.
The teaser image circulating shows a number of interesting elements, including a large chrome rear bumper, a more rounded and elongated body shape. As well as a long row of letters as an identity at the stern.
This detail confirms the direction of the modern retro vehicle design that is different from the GWM model's character so far. GWM's move is also in line with the company's strategy to strengthen its position in the mid-to-high segment.
In early 2025, GWM has formed an Ultra Luxury Vehicle Business Group under the leadership of Chairman Wei Jianjun. This group is planned to launch vehicles priced at more than one million yuan or around Rp2.3 billion.
On the sales side, GWM's performance is showing a positive trend. Throughout November 2025, the company managed to sell 133,200 units or an increase of 4.57 percent compared to the same period last year.
Cumulatively, GWM's sales reached 1,199,700 units throughout 2025, growing 9.26 percent year-on-year and setting a record for the period. Sales of new energy vehicles also increased 11.43 percent to 40,113 units in November, with a total cumulative of 243,500 units throughout the year.
In the global market, GWM recorded sales of 57,309 units, jumping 32.70 percent year-on-year, with a total cumulative of 368,700 units from January to November. Now, GWM seems ready to expand its portfolio in the world automotive industry in 2026.
