Veteran Actor Yoon Suk Hwa Dies of a Tumor
JAKARTA - Yoon Suk Hwa, a veteran South Korean actress, died on Friday, December 19. He died of a brain tumor he had suffered from for a long time.
Launching The Korea Times, the Korean Actors Association said Yoon Suk Hwa died at 09.54 Korean time at Severance Hospital, Seoul, South Korea.
The actress died with her family and closest people by her side. The news of her death was only confirmed a few hours after it was first reported.
Yoon Suk Hwa has been undergoing treatment since October 2022 where he underwent brain tumor surgery. After announcing his illness a year later, he appeared for the last time in the theater Toccata in Seoul.
Born in 1956, Yoon Suk Hwa debuted as a theater artist in 1975. Some of the theater stages he has played include Hamlet, Agnes of God, and A Letter to My Daughter.
Some of the Korean dramas he has played are Miracle That We Met, Melting Me Softly, The Penthouse 3, The Great Shaman Ga Doo Shim, and Remarriage and Desires.
He had a controversy when he claimed to be an Ehwa alumni but it turned out that he only attended one class and the last time he went to high school. Because his confession was not revealed, he chose to move to Hong Kong for a few years.
Then, he returned to South Korea to star in several drama titles and several theater stages.
As one of the first generation of Korean theater actors, the Korean Theater Organization expressed their sorrow over the death of Yoon Suk Hwa.
"Yoon is a pillar of the Korean theater community and someone who puts his time into the welfare of artists above anyone else," said Gil Hae Yeon of the organization.
Yoon Suk Hwa died at the age of 69.
