Minister of Home Affairs: The construction of 2,600 Regional Huntap Affected by Disaster will be started immediately.

JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian said the government would immediately start laying the first stone or groundbreaking for the construction of 2,600 units of permanent housing (huntap) in three disaster-affected areas.

Tito said the development of permanent housing was an initiative from the Minister of Housing and Settlements (PKP) Maruarar Sirait who worked with several foundations.

"We have checked for more than 10 days regarding the locations, this is 2,600 units," Tito told reporters as reported by ANTARA, Friday, December 19.

Tito explained that the 2,600 permanent housing units were divided into three locations, namely North Sumatra with 1,000 units, West Sumatra with 600 units, and Aceh with 1,000 units.

The groundbreaking for the construction is planned to be attended directly by Tito, Maruarar, and Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas.

Tito himself did not explain in detail the administrative process for distributing permanent housing to flood victims.

He also did not explain the target for completing the construction of the house. With the assistance of permanent housing, it is hoped that it will accelerate the recovery process of the disaster in the three areas.

Previously, the Minister of Public Housing, Maruarar Sirait, confirmed that the construction of permanent housing (huntap) for disaster-affected people in Aceh Province, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra would begin this month.

He emphasized that in the initial stage, there was readiness for the construction of 2,603 permanent housing units which would be immediately carried out this month, even though disaster handling was still in the emergency response phase.

"Currently, 2,603 houses are ready to be built for our brothers and sisters in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. This is not a temporary residence, but a permanent residence. Pray, in a not too long time we will start building," said Maruarar in his statement in Jakarta, Thursday (18/12).
