KAI Commuter Projects to Serve 19.9 Million KRL Passengers During Christmas and New Year

JAKARTA - KAI Commuter projects that as many as 19.9 million passengers will use commuter line or KRL services during the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 (Nataru) period. This figure is up 3 percent compared to the previous year.

VP Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter Karina Amanda projected an increase in the number of trips and users of commuter lines or KRL throughout the Nataru period.

From an operational perspective, said Karina, KAI Commuter prepared a total of 1,296 trips. This number is increasing compared to the previous year which recorded 1,284 train trips.

The details, said Karina, include 1,065 Commuter Line Jabodetabek trips, 70 Commuter Line Basoetta trips, and 14 Commuter Line Merak trips.

Meanwhile, outside Jabodetabek, it includes 58 Commuter Line trips in the Bandung Region, 41 Commuter Line trips in the Yogyakarta Region, and 50 Commuter Line trips in the Surabaya Region.

"Especially for the Yogyakarta-Palur commuter line, we will have an addition of 34 special trips in the period from December 26 to 28, 2025, because we project that in that period there will be a surge in passengers for the Yogyakarta-Palur KRL," said Karina in a press conference, in Jakarta, Friday, December 19.

In line with the addition of travel, continued Karina, the number of users is also projected to exceed 19 million people.

"In total, KAI Commuter predicts that as many as 19,992,550 people will ride the Commuter Line during this Nataru period, or an increase of 3 percent compared to last year's Nataru period, which was 19.4 million more," he said.

Karina said that the user projection is spread across several areas of the KCI area. Where for the Jabodetabek commuter line, we project that we will carry around 16.9 million passengers. This is during the Nataru Transportation period.

Meanwhile, for the Merak area, KAI Commuter projects will carry 263,000 passengers and the Bandung area as many as 1.1 million passengers.

Meanwhile, for the 6 Yogyakarta area, it is projected to carry as many as 545,000 passengers specifically for KRL, while for the Prambanan Express (Prameks) train as many as 75,830 passengers.

Then, for the 8 Surabaya area, it is predicted that it will carry as many as 919,101 passengers and the Soekarno-Hatta Airport commuter line as many as 106,614 passengers.

"If we look at the position of the graph compared to the year on year in the last two years. This increase is approximately 4 percent compared to 2024-2025," he explained.
