Belitung Police Disrupt the Delivery of 49 Bags of Illegal Tin Sand
JAKARTA - The Belitung Police together with the Tanjungpandan Police, Bangka Belitung Islands, thwarted the delivery of 49 bags of tin sand suspected of being illegal at the Tanjungpandan Port, early Friday.
Belitung Police Chief AKBP Sarwo Edhie Wibowo said the 49 bags of tin sand were suspected of being illegal because they were not accompanied by official documents.
"The dozens of tin sand sacks whose owners are unknown were transported by truck to be sent to Jakarta by ship," he explained as reported by ANTARA, Friday, December 19.
The success in thwarting the shipment of tin sand without a permit, said the Police Chief, was the result of the Tertib Menumbing 2025 Operation team.
At that time, the Tanjungpandan Port Subsector personnel coordinated with the Tipidter Unit of the Belitung Police Criminal Investigation Unit to immediately carry out a search and inspection of vehicles in the Tanjungpandan Port area.
"During the search, at around 02.00 WIB, officers suspected a truck that would cross to Jakarta," he said.
He explained that dozens of tin sand sacks hidden in a wooden box in a truck were secured at the Belitung Police along with the truck driver for evidence and further processing.
"I give great appreciation to the team in the field who managed to thwart illegal tin sand, this success is a form of commitment and seriousness of the Belitung Police in eradicating illegal mining activities and sending illegal tin sand," he explained.
The Police Chief emphasized that his party had increased surveillance and law enforcement against all forms of illegal activities in the port area and distribution routes out of Belitung Island.
Meanwhile, Head of the Belitung Police Criminal Investigation Unit, AKP I Made Yudha Suwikarma, said the truck driver with the initials JY (46) has now been secured and is undergoing an investigation process. "We will thoroughly investigate this case to investigate other parties involved," he said.
