Former Bali Police Chief Mangku Pastika Usul to Mahfud MD Police List Must Be Bachelor

DENPASAR - Former Bali Police Chief I Made Mangku Pastika proposed that the registration of Polri members must be a graduate of a bachelor's degree (S1).

This was conveyed by Pastika to members of the National Police Reform Acceleration Commission (KPRP), Mahfud MD in a sapta aspiration held by the KPRP at the Faculty of Law, Udayana University (Unud) Bali in Denpasar, Friday, December 19.

"I also asked you to convey, hopefully in the future the Police will be from S1, except for Brimob, which must be in the field. Polair (water police) can be a high school graduate. But if the staff, the reserse, according to me, must be at least a bachelor's degree, thank God S2," said Pastika.

The former Governor of Bali compared it to a village head who graduated with a master's degree (S2).

"Now the head of the village is S2. There is no longer the term Mr. Bhabinkamtibmas Bintara, no. Bhabinkamtibmas officers must. Because he has to deal (with the community directly)," he added.

According to him, the role of Bhabinkamtibmas is important to develop villages. But the difference between academic graduates makes the condition not ideal.

"How to develop a village whose head of the village is S2, there are many scholars. While he himself only graduated from high school, with the addition of the police school, SPN. How many months is it now, only 6 months and 7 months and so the police with all its authority, it's a pity. When someone asks, what is the legal basis for you to stop me? "he said.

Meanwhile, KPRP member Mahfud MD said the National Police indeed needed to be reformed, because it was facing public scrutiny outside the norm of the past.

"So it is considered appropriate that the president gives special attention so that the reform of the National Police is prioritized. Because the National Police is what ensures the comfort and order of the community. That is the first goal of the establishment of the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia, namely to protect all the people and all the Indonesian blood. To achieve public welfare," he said.
