Today the US, Qatar, Turkey and Egypt discuss the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire

JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, will hold talks on Gaza with senior officials from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey in Miami on Friday, December 19.

A White House official told AFP on Thursday that their discussions would focus on the next phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

In the second phase of the ceasefire agreement, Israel was supposed to withdraw from its positions in Gaza. Next, the interim authorities will rule the Palestinian territory in place of Hamas, and international stabilization forces will be deployed.

However, so far the progress of the agreement towards the next phase has been slow.

The news agency Axios reported that Turkey had confirmed that Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan would attend the talks. Qatar Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al-Thani and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty will also be present.

"Turkey will continue to fight tirelessly on every front to ensure that what happened in Gaza is not forgotten, that justice is upheld," Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in a speech this Wednesday.
