Status of the Sumatra Disaster Transition to Recovery, BNPB Accelerates the Construction of Huntara for Victims Affected by

JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) prioritizes the construction of temporary housing (huntara) for survivors of floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

"So this is indeed a phase where the emergency transition to recovery, so what needs to be accelerated now is the problem of huntara," said Deputy Head of the BNPB System and Strategy, Raditya Jati, at a press conference in Jakarta, Friday, quoted by Antara.

He explained that the construction of the huntara deserved the full support of the TNI, Polri, the PU Ministry, and a number of other institutions.

With full support, said Raditya, one temporary housing unit can be built in three days, although there are still many challenges on the ground such as land readiness and administration.

"We continue to coordinate and continue to carry out activities. For example, today we have started to build huntara in Aceh, especially in Pidie Regency," he said.

In addition, BNPB is also preparing a decent temporary housing example so that it can later become a model to be replicated by other parties who support the disaster recovery process.

"So that it can become an example that can also be used for huntingara development by other parties, including NGOs that will build," he said.

Previously, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Pratikno conveyed that a number of disaster-affected districts/cities had established an emergency transition status towards recovery, along with the beginning of the control of disaster handling.

"Several regencies and cities have entered the emergency transition period, although some are still extending the emergency response status according to the needs of handling in the field," said Pratikno.

A number of regencies/cities that have started to set the status of emergency transition such as South Aceh, Subulussalam, Aceh Besar, Padangsidimpuan, Padang Panjang, to Mandailing Natal.

The determination of the emergency transition status is marked by the start of the construction of hunting and permanent housing in various locations.
