7.500 M2 Tea Garden in Cikajang Garut to be Planted with Vegetables Destroyed, 3 Perpetrators Arrested

GARUT - The police arrested three perpetrators of the destruction of a tea garden in the Cikajang area, Garut Regency, West Java. The garden is planned to be converted into vegetables with a total area of damaged land of around 7,500 square meters.

"As a result of this act, tea plants suffered damage with an area of 7,500 square meters," said Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Garut Police, AKP Joko Prihatin in Garut, Friday, quoted by Antara.

He said the police received information that there were damaged tea gardens in the Cisaat I Block, Pasir Geulis II Block, and Pasir Jengkot V Afdeling Cisaruni Block, Margamulya Village, Cikajang District, Garut Regency.

The police, he said, then carried out a series of investigations which finally managed to uncover the perpetrators, who numbered three people, namely the initials S (47), D (52), and F (37) residents of Margamulya Village, Cikajang District, which were carried out on November 21, 2025.

"The destruction of the tea garden was carried out by brothers S and D on Friday, November 21, 2025," he said.

He said the perpetrator damaged the tea garden by sawing, then poked the roots with a hoe, which eventually the plant could no longer produce tea.

They damaged the tea plantation, said Joko, because his plan was to make it a land that would be planted with various types of vegetable crops and coffee trees.

"The destruction was carried out because the tea garden land was planned to be planted with vegetable crops and coffee trees," he said.

He revealed that the three perpetrators had different roles, such as perpetrator F as a provider of capital for plant seeds to perpetrators S and D, whose profits would be after the harvest.

As a result of his actions, the three perpetrators are now charged with Article 107 letters A and C of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 39 of 2014 concerning Plantation, as well as Article 170 and Article 406 of the Criminal Code with a maximum penalty of five years and six months in prison.
