Illegal Logging, the National Police Names One Corporation as a Suspect

JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo revealed that the investigation into illegal logging had named one corporation as a suspect. He ensured that the number of suspects could increase as the investigation continued in a number of areas.

"One has been investigated. But the others are in the process of being investigated," Listyo Sigit told reporters at Halim Perdanakusumah, Jakarta, after the jump, Friday, December 19.

The National Police Chief emphasized that the police were careful in raising the status of the case so that the legal process would not be wrong. According to him, the investigation was carried out thoroughly so that all the series of cases could be completed.

When asked about the number of suspects, the National Police Chief confirmed that those who had been appointed were not individuals, but corporations. "One corporation, not one individual suspect," he said.

"The possibility of adding more suspects is wide open. Currently, the investigation team is still conducting an in-depth investigation and returning to several locations. "The possibility will increase. Members are still conducting in-depth research in the field," he said.

"In the investigation process, the National Police has examined a number of witnesses and collected evidence. "The stage of examining witnesses is over, the examination with evidence leading to forensics has also been carried out," said the National Police Chief.

"The investigation was carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Forestry and the Ministry of Environment to assemble strong evidence. The location of the investigation is in Aceh and West Sumatra.
