Juventus vs AS Roma: Bianconeri's consistency test in Turin

Juventus and AS Roma will face each other on Saturday, December 20 local time at the Allianz Stadium, Turin, in a Serie A match. This match has the potential to determine the direction of the top competition. Both teams are hunting for Champions League tickets, while their rivals have to step aside for a while because they are appearing in the Supercoppa Italiana in Saudi Arabia.

For Juventus, momentum is starting to form. A narrow 1-0 victory over Bologna in the last league match was a continuation of their revival in Europe. Four days earlier, the Bianconeri successfully defeated Pafos in the Champions League, reopening the opportunity to qualify for the knockout phase which had seemed closed.

The lone goal against Bologna came from an unexpected figure. Juan Cabal, who came on as a substitute, immediately scored the winning goal just minutes after coming on. The result marked Juventus' second win in the last three league games, the same number as their total wins in the previous nine games.

Juventus are now in fifth place in the Serie A standings. Under the direction of new coach Luciano Spalletti, stability is slowly returning, especially at home. Juve are unbeaten in the last 11 home games in Serie A, and the record against Roma in Turin is also very favorable. They won 11 of the last 14 league meetings at home, with 10 times recording a clean sheet.

Roma comes with a slightly better position in the standings. The capital club is four points ahead of Juventus and has just risen through a 1-0 victory over Como. The goal was scored by Brazilian wing-back Wesley, who this season has started to make a difference when Roma's front line often gets stuck.

However, consistency is still a problem. After briefly leading the standings at the end of November, Roma suffered two consecutive defeats without scoring. The striker crisis is real, with their total goals only 16, including the lowest among the top teams in Serie A.

Even so, Gian Piero Gasperini's troops still pose a threat. With only eight goals conceded, Roma have the best defensive line in the league. Their away record throughout the calendar year is also impressive, with 12 wins from 17 matches.

The victory in Turin could even lift Roma to second place in the standings, surpassing Napoli and AC Milan who are absent this week.

In terms of the team, Juventus is still struggling with problems in the back line. Federico Gatti is absent due to injury, while Daniele Rugani and Bremer have just recovered. Bremer has the opportunity to go straight down from the first minute, especially because Teun Koopmeiners has to serve a suspension.

In the front line, Dusan Vlahovic is still sidelined. Kenan Yildiz is back to be the focus of creativity, supporting one striker. Jonathan David has the chance to be a starter even though he is going through a period of goal drought in the league, the longest since he started his career in Europe.

Roma is also not entirely ideal. Paulo Dybala and Evan Ferguson have not found their best sharpness, while Matias Soule is actually one of the most active players in creating opportunities this season. Artem Dovbyk has the chance to return from injury, but Roma will lose Evan Ndicka and Neil El Aynaoui who are preparing to appear in the African Cup.

The match prediction leads to a tight duel with a slim margin. Both teams are equally unproductive in front of the goal, and small details are likely to be decisive.

Juventus have a solid home advantage and historical record, while Roma often struggle to score goals when facing big teams. In a match that is predicted to be rigid and full of calculations, one goal can be enough to change the map of the Serie A top four competition.
