Electric Car Explosion is Suspected to Cause Fire in Accessories Warehouse that Killed 5 People

JAKARTA - The fire incident that occurred in a warehouse of accessories and houses in the Penjaringan area, North Jakarta, is suspected to have started from charging an electric car inside the victim's house.

"The electric car is being charged then there is an electrical phenomenon that causes an explosion in the car," said Kasiops Sudin Gulkarmat North Jakarta and Thousand Islands, Gatot Sulaeman, Friday, December 19, 2025.

The fire explosion caught thinner oil and paint cans so that the fire grew and finally a fire occurred.

"Then the fire spread to thinner oil and paint for making flower vase accessories so that the fire got bigger," he said.

The location of the fire was an online accessories warehouse in the form of a straco fireworks, bags and flower vases. At least 3 buildings were on fire, namely one empty house and two houses that were used as accessories warehouses.

The fire extinguishing process was just completed by officers from the North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Fire Department on Friday morning at around 08.08 WIB. The fire was extinguished by 22 fire trucks with 110 personnel.

"Now the fire has been extinguished. The area burned was about 1,680 square meters on a 2-story house," said Gatot.

Previously reported, the fatal fire incident that occurred in a warehouse of accessories and houses in the Penjaringan area, North Jakarta, had made the local residents panic during the incident.

The reason is, the victim's hysterical screams from inside the house before being found dead had made residents even more panicked when trying to manually extinguish it.

However, the flames quickly burned the entire house and the accessories warehouse.

"Officers and residents on the ground heard screams from inside the house asking for help," said Head of the Metro Police, Penjaringan, AKBP Agus Ady Wijaya when confirmed, Friday, December 19.
